Spring has Sprung! The weather is getting warmer, the bulbs I planted last November are growing. (This alone is a miracle. I bought them in the 75% off bin since it was really late in the season, and planted them pretty shallow. Apparently the layer of mulch should not be considered part of the depth.)
Between Spring and all the watercolor I’ve been doing, the idea for these cards got stuck in my brain and I finally had to make them.
Tips and Tricks
I stamped the birds, branches, and flowers onto watercolor paper with Crumb Cake ink. I used an aqua painter to fill in the color. The Crumb Cake ink bled a lot (seriously, A LOT!). I was still able to keep the colors mostly separated on the birds. Once it was all dry, I went back over a few of the details with a blender pen and ink–this is how I got the birds to have eyes again.
I ran everything through the Big Shot (because, matching thinlits!) and then began assembly. I used one of my watercolor blob backgrounds, added a few faux splatters using the Timeless Textures stamp set. I used Sahara Sand and stamped it off twice before inking my background. I mostly just glued everything down. The bird got a few dimensionals.
I ended up making 4 of these, and used 3 for Easter. Here are all three:
If you love these birds and branches, the time to get them is NOW! They will continue into the next catalog period, but NOW they are bundled and you can get them at a discount. I’ll post the full retiring list next time, and we’ll talk about some of my faves that we are about to say “ciao” to. (I know, grammar. Sorry, not sorry.)
Meanwhile, I hope you are all enjoying the new season! Here is a pic of my daffodils:
