First Get Some Paper is making its YouTube debut today, with the first video in a new series: Cardmaking Basics – Paper
Why Make Cards?
I started making cards in order to connect with my friends. I soon learned about another benefit–doing creative things is good for you. (There’s actually scientific research that validates this claim, but I’m not going into that level of detail today. Trust me on this!) I started making cards, but I had no clue exactly how to get started. And I was intimidated by “all the things.”
Do I Need It All?
No! (You will want it all, and many of us have suggested that Stampin’ Up! add a “one of everything” button to its store.) You only need a few things to get going. Some paper, some ink, and some stamps. Pick a stamp set that you think is pretty, one or two coordinating ink colors, and a pack of paper (or two), and you are good to go.
There are also a few “must have tools.” (More on these later.)
Isn’t Paper Just Paper?
Rather than buying lots of inexpensive paper, focus on buying quality over quantity. You’ll thank me for this advice! You want the paper you buy to take ink beautifully, allowing for crisp images. (Quality ink also plays a role, but today we are talking about paper.) The paper should be durable, smooth, have a nice feel to it, and the ink should not spread out from where it is stamped. Bottom Line: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White and Very Vanilla cardstock are the bomb!
Cardmaking Basics – Paper…the video
Without further ado, here’s our first video. It reviews making a card base, and demonstrates making a pretty thank you card using just stamps, ink, and paper. Enjoy! (Yeah, its kinda long. I’m working on it. I did edit out about a minute. You’re welcome!)
Wait, You Said Something About Basic Tools
The first two “must-have” tools for any cardmaker/paper crafter are a paper trimmer and bone folder. Stampin’ Up! offers really high quality tools…I’ve used my trimmer for 5 years already (I do replace the blade regularly).
- Stampin’ Trimmer: item number 126889 $30.00 (USD)
- Bone Folder: item number 102300 $7.00 (USD)
You can purchase both of these in my 24/7 store.
I hope you enjoyed my first video! (Be kind, we all gotta start somewhere! I’m working on getting them shorter!)
Thanks for stopping by!
